museums and collections throughout the world. Born in Calabria, Italy
in 1932, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1947 and began a notable career,
first as teacher at the University of Wisconsin 1961-64, and as a
prolific artist until his death in 2001. Scanga's associates and
lifetime friends included such artists as Harvey Littleton, Dale
Chihuly, Donald Judd, Bruce Nauman, and Wisconsin artist Dean Meeker.
The Italo Scanga Foundation is dedicated to preserving Scanga's work
and promoting the understanding and appreciation of art. We are grateful

of John James Audubon's original art, unframed 26-1/4" x 39-1/4",
image size 24-1/2" x 34-1/2". Princetons are direct-camera
absolute facsimiles, printed in historic accuracy that separates them
from all other Audubon editions (princetonaudubon.com). The print was
re-created in limited edition from original Plate #186, pinnated grous. "Prairie
Grouse" is unique to other Audubon drawings, as all elements (birds,
background, flora) were composed by the artist himself in about 1824,
near the Great Lakes.
